Councillor Galan: visits El Tomillar

HUNDREDS of children have been welcomed back to their school in Benalmadena by a local councillor.

Elena Galan, Councillor for Education helped kick of the new term at the El Tomillar school, where she was met by director Antonio Gallardo.

Councillor Galan explained, “in Benalmadena we have a total of 5,079 students enrolled in the seven CEIP schools of the municipality, as well as 488 schoolchildren at the Maravillas College.”

She added, “this year the student body has grown and consequently the ratio (of pupils to teachers) is high”, unlike other municipalities, where student enrolment has stagnated.   Councillor Galan explained she has therefore asked the Junta de Andalucia for “the construction of a new school centre” in the municipality.

She concluded, “within our obligations we continue to work to improve schools. We have made a series of reforms, so that the academic year will run as normally as possible.”
