TORREMOLINOS is set to build on its reputation for innovation.
It comes after the holiday favourite hosted the first strategic meeting of the eight Spanish pioneer tourist towns selected at this year’s World Travel Market event in London.
Presenting the meeting, Mayor Jose Ortiz said that the group was formed in order to “reconvert” these “mature” destinations into modern, sustainable resorts.
“We have left geographical borders and political colours behind to focus on what unites us: the challenges of an industry in the middle of renewal.”
The other municipalities included in the scheme are San Bartolome de Tirajana (Gran Canaria), Benidorm (Alicante), Calvia (Mallorca), Lloret de Mar (Cataluña), Salou (Tarragona), Adeje and Arona (both Tenerife).
Benidorm’s mayor, Antonio Perez, said: “When you travel quickly you have to go alone, but to go far you have to be accompanied.”
All present announced calls for grants and specific funding for tourist towns.
