Disaster payouts may need returning

ALMOST 400 families have so far been contacted by the local organisation in Lorca that is responsible for distributing money to those most seriously affected by the 2011 earthquake.

They are being asked to justify the amount of money they have been given over the years to repair their homes and get their lives back on track and will need to prove where the previous handouts have been spent.

The local council said that they have financially helped those in need as soon as they registered in the aftermath of the devastating quake, but in recent days it has been announced that public money must be justified as it’s alleged that some families have been receiving aid from both the state and the local area for the same purpose which was not the original plan.

The 396 families possibly affected by this are being judged on a case-by-case basis but it is understood that a number may be asked to return certain payments that have been made in the past.
