Xavi Torres, will be playing in the Australian A-Leagues

Professional footballer Xavi Torres left Spain last week and moved to Australia.

Born in Javea, 30-year-old Torres was snatched up by the scouts of Villareal, an ambitious team from the east coast Castellon that was to reach the top of the Spanish Liga and challenge for the title during much of the 2000s.

Having spent his entire apprenticeship at Villareal, he broke through into senior professional level at Alicante CF, the second club of the city.

Torres has since played for FC Barcelona, Malaga CF, Levante, Getafe CF, Real Betis and Sporting de Gijon.

He will be playing in the Australian A-Leagues a defensive midfielder for west coast Perth Glory FC and joins former teammates Diego Castro (Getafe FC) and Andreu Guerao (Barcelona).
