A 58-YEAR-OLD Spanish national has been sent to prison by a court in Murcia accused of allegedly killing his roommate with a single gunshot in an apartment in Espinardo. The victim, a 60-year-old man was found by police after other roommates of the victim discovered the body on the floor of his flat.
The coroner was called and immediately issued a death certificate. The homicide group of the National Police assumed the investigation into the case and after taking statements from four other roommates arrested one of them for the crime of homicide and the illegal possession of a firearm.
The incident began on Sunday morning when neighbours called the police after seeing what they believed was blood dripping onto the street from an overlooking terrace. Police reports in the Spanish press at the time said that there were no immediate signs that the man’s death was violent but that they had taken samples away for further investigation.
It was then reported that a 22-year-old man from Latvia had been detained in connection with death after being arrested at a police checkpoint in the Valencian town of Alzira for an unrelated incident.
Neighbours of the dead man told police that they had seen this arrested man with a blond woman at the scene of the crime on occasions, and were spotted on the day of the victim’s death riding his motorbike.
