THE woman and her eight-month-old daughter who fell 50-metres while visiting Denia castle remained hospitalised, health officials confirmed this week.
The incident occurred last Saturday just before midday as the Romanian woman – who was visiting the castle with her husband – fell over a metre-high wall with her baby in her arms.
The mother and baby fell onto the metal meshing which contains the rocks below. Police sources say the accident could have been fatal were the metal meshing not in place.
The mother is seriously ill and being cared for at Hospital de Denia-MarinaSalud whilst the baby is in critical condition at Hospital La Fe de Valencia.
Initially, the Spanish press reported the police to suspect a third person involved in the case but police sources have since ruled that out and instead are questioning whether the mother had suicidal intentions.
The investigation continues.
