A mother who assaulted her 15-year-old son was sentenced to 56 days community service by the Provincial Court of Murcia last week.
The court learned how the mother became aggravated at her son after she asked him to come with her to pick his brother up from school since she “did not trust him in the family home alone.”
The mother “grabbed her son tightly by his sweatshirt, which tore and struggled with him, causing scratches on his neck, bruising on his right elbow and bruising on his back – injuries that took eight days to heal.”
Witnesses in the case included the boy’s uncles, who saw the boy “barefoot and sparsely dressed” after the assault.
The mother appealed against the judgment but the court dismissed the same given the medical evidence and witness statements.
The court also imposed a restraining order on the mother, meaning she cannot be within 100 metres of her son nor contact him for one year.
