Electricity pylons
Power to the people

THE HIGH voltage lines that have crossed a village in Murcia have finally been taken down.

Residents in El Palmer could be heard cheering and clapping as electric company Iberdrola began dismantling the giant structures – 11 in all – which stretched for a total of 2.3 kilometres.

This is all part of the investment of €40m made by Iberdrola aiming to provide the city with a state-of-the-art, modern and more secure electrical distribution network, and once the new substation and high voltage underground feeder lines are up and running, they will begin similar work in Los Rectores.

The new substations allow technology that doesn’t require huge pylons to carry the power and thus can be kept in a confined space and remove the eyesores of the large structures.
