THE first edition of the ‘LA MARINA DE IFACH’ golf tournament was held at Club de Golf Ifach last weekend, with over 40 men and women scattered across the green, going for gold.

The idea for the tournament was born as the Benissa, Calpe and Teulada-Moraira councils sought to work together to promote a local activity.

Its name was chosen as all the municipalities are based on the Marina Alta with a view of Calpe’s legendary Penon de Ifach.

The tournament was played in Stableford, whereby points were awarded on each hole according to how the player did against their own handicap.

This scoring system is widespread in competitive social golf and was used on the PGA Tour for The International at Castle Pines which ran for 21 years up until 2006.
