Torrevieja lose to the Alicante Stars

ALICANTE STARS – 180 all out   TORREVIEJA – 116 all out

The latest league match in ECCL Division II saw the Alicante Stars taking on Torrevieja and it was the Stars who went away with a 64 run victory.

Torrevieja won the toss and invited Alicante Stars to bat first, and the decision immediately paid off when they were 0 for 2 inside the opening overs.  The choice to field first seemed further justified when the visitors were then struggling at 44 for 4.  This was the point that Nadeem (59) and Ismael (49) came together had put together a fifth wicket partnership of 112 that turned the innings back into the Stars’ favour.

Both fell in quick succession, with Ismael unluckily being dismissed one short of his half-century, but there were little other contributions as Torrevieja reduced the Stars from 156 for 4 to 180 all out.

On an unpredictable Torrevieja wicket, the best of the bowlers was Angus McDowall who finished with 4 for 30.

In reply, Torrevieja failed to get close to the Stars score despite a solid opening batsman’s performance from Kieran Wood who scored 39.  Nobody was either able to keep him company or make any worthwhile contribution of their own and the home side was bundled out for 116 and a defeat by 64 runs.  Wickets were shared around with Abdul taking 3 for 8 and Shani, in his only over, taking two wickets and mopping up the tail-enders.

Torrevieja are again at home this weekend as they take on Pinatar Pirates, and spectators are always welcome.  For further information check out the website at
