Formula 1 heads for Monza

THE 2017 Formula 1 circus moves from Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium to Monza in Italy.  Here’s what some of the leading drivers are saying ahead of Sunday’s race…

Fernando Alonso – McLaren-Honda

“Like Spa, Monza is one of those legendary tracks where everybody loves watching cars going racing. With the new wider, faster cars this year, it will definitely be another circuit where we’ll see a new fastest lap and some incredibly high speeds on the straights.”

Romain Grosjean – Haas-Ferrari

“Monza may be one of the circuits where we don’t improve the lap time that much compared to the past. It’s going to be fun though, with big straight lines and a lot of low downforce.”

Max Verstappen – Red Bull Racing

“It’s maybe not the most positive track for us in terms of top speed but it’s always good to feel the atmosphere of the fans who are very passionate there.”

Carlos Sainz – Toro Rosso

“The Italian GP weekend is a bit of a frustrating one, because you want to spend the whole weekend eating pizza and pasta but you can’t as we’re there to race! A part from this, I have to say it’s an amazing weekend and one of the things I enjoy the most is the Italian fans.”

Kevin Magnussen – Haas-Ferrari

“Monza is probably the best track for overtaking on the calendar. It’s always exciting racing there. It’s is all about the atmosphere. It’s got so much history and the Italian fans are really into it and they’re extremely passionate.”
