YOUNG La Nucian tennis star Lucia Llinares recently won the under-14s‘ Juan Fuster Zaragoza Torneo internacional Tennis Europe.
The prestigious tournament is held across Europe and has born some of the continent’s most famous players – Justine Henin, Roger Federer, Caroline Wozniacki, Andy Murray, Dinara Safina, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Maria Sharapova.
The 9-day-long knock-out, held at the Lope de Vega Colegio in Benidorm, put Llinares through her paces as she smashed opponents from Spain – Berta Gutierrez (round 2), Lidia Gonzalez (round 3), Latvia – Elizabete Klavinska (quarter-finals), Romania – Iona Zvonaru (semi-finals) and Hungary – Vanessa Danko (final).
The win adds many points to Llinares European ranking and closes off an excellent August with Llinares having come runner-up in the whole of Spain
The awards ceremony was attended by Benidorm’s Councillor of Sports Arturo Cabrillo and Headmaster of the Lope de Vega Colegio, Vicente Fuster Perez.
