CHILDREN needing to stay in the Vega Baja Hospital near to Orihuela are going to have a brighter time of things in the future.

Under the banner of ‘El bosque de la segunda planta’ (The forest on the second floor) the paediatrics unit in the hospital is about to undergo a makeover to give the area a less clinical feel and to find ways of taking the young patients minds off their stay through a series of colourful images.

According to those behind this initiative, the project seeks to transform the paediatric unit into an authentic looking forest complete with trees, plants, and flowers and a selection of animals such as monkeys and giraffes.  All the images will adorn the walls, ceilings, doors and corridors on the dedicated floor.

The project has been divided into two phases.  Firstly, the day hospital, the paediatric cardiology consultation unit, and the nursing station will be followed by all the interiors of the rooms.  Work has already begun on phase one.

Those behind this project in the Vega Baja Hospital have also been involved in similar schemes in the Alicante General Hospital and the Denia Hospital.
