AFTER being closed for reconstruction for nearly a year, Calle Andalucia in San Pedro Alcantara has been reopened and has already claimed its first elderly victim.

The manhole covers on the pavement are not flush, being about two centimetres above ground and an elderly man tripped over one of the covers and was so badly hurt that emergency services were called out to try to stem the flow of blood and take him for treatment.

A complaint has now been made to the local council but the danger still remains and all walking in the area should be aware of the potential hazard.
