AIRPORT managers AENA will be soundproofing a further number of homes to reduce the increase of noise pollution in Alicante and Elche.

Residents of Urbanova and Arenales del Sol have complained that in recent months there have been noticeable higher levels of noise as the aircraft arrive and take off from the Alicante-Elche Airport, especially on Saturdays when there is a take-off roughly every five minutes.

AENA announced the measures at a meeting of the team that monitor the airport which amount to €1.6m for sound insulation of 298 homes in the municipalities of Alicante and Elche and are within the scope of the official acoustic isolation plans of the airport.  The latest programme of work will take the total of 2,667 buildings that have had such soundproofing carried out in them.

Over the next few months, AENA will be putting the works out to tender.
