PICTURE the scene: a tranquil lake, some fish jumping to catch the insects skimming the surface. A boat is puttering around on the ripples created by a gentle breeze, with an old man and a young boy trying to catch fish.

That is possibly the only tranquil part about the Javea Players’ next production ‘On Golden Pond’. Cast your mind back to the 1981 Hollywood production with the unforgettable cast of not one, but two Fondas and Katherine Hepburn… Now’s your chance to see the talented Javea Players’ actors recreate the action.

Cantankerous retiree Norman Thayer and his conciliatory wife Ethel spend summers at their New England vacation home on the shores of idyllic Golden Pond. This year, however, their adult daughter Chelsea, whom they’ve not seen for years, visits with her new fiancee and his teenage son, Billy – partly to celebrate Norman’s birthday, but mainly because they want to leave Billy there, in order to holiday alone in Europe.

When Chelsea returns, she finds Billy has developed a special relationship with her father, which she never had and realises she wants to have before it’s too late. Chelsea: “It just seems like we’ve been mad at each other for so long…” Norman: “I didn’t think we were mad, I just thought we didn’t like each other!”

Show dates run from Tuesday November 7 to Saturday November 11 at 8.00pm each evening at the Union Musical de Gata.

Tickets cost €12.50 and can be purchased via javeplayers.com.
