MEMBERS of Javea U3A’s Spanish Culture & Cuisine group really did enjoy the best of both worlds when they ventured inland on a recent day trip.

The party of 53, led by group leaders Angela Chantry and Tony Dearie, visited a historic palace, enjoyed lunch at a typically Spanish country restaurant and ended their day in a brewery.

The coach tour began with a guided tour round the beautifully restored El Palacio de Condes de Cervellon and gardens in the historic town of Anna. Refurbishment of the building, which boasts architecture akin to the Alhambra in Granada, was completed in 2007 and is now a Heritage Centre.

It contains some stunning features including magnificent ceilings and artefacts as well as some beautiful pieces of furniture and famous old paintings.

The party then enjoyed lunch at the nearby Restaurante Ananda before moving on to La Socarrada brewery in Xativa, the second biggest beer factory in Spain. After an informative talk on the factory’s production methods, members were treated to tastings of three of the most popular brews, which went down a treat together with a selection of tapas.

There was a “merry” round of applause for organisers Tony and Angela when the coach finally arrived back in Javea after another full day of culture and cuisine.
