ANXIOUS to ensure that there isn’t a repeat of the flooding that took place last December at the Arroyo Perales in Sabinillas, €120,000 is being spent by the Manilva council.

Taking advice from experts, diggers have been brought in to ensure that the entire area is clear of silt and rubbish so that rainwater will be channelled out of the area as opposed to last year when drainage pipes were blocked and the heavy rainfall resulted in major flooding.

The original budget was €60,000 but this has had to be doubled and will come out of council funds as one of the pipes that drain the water away will have to be replaced as it is damaged beyond repair.

The entire work is expected to last about six weeks.
