TWO RUSSIAN companies specialising in weddings and general event planning are visiting the Alicante province as part of a local initiative.

During the visit that will last a few days, the groups will be touring a number of municipalities to increase their first hand knowledge on the growing market for wedding tourism in the area.  During their stay in the province, the Russian delegation will visit beaches, coves, cliffs and natural landscapes of Alicante, Altea, Benidorm and Calpe, areas that are regarded as perfect backgrounds for wedding photographs.  They will also be given a detailed tour of various hotels, restaurants and places out in the countryside that are perfectly equipped to host such celebrations.

Vice President and deputy tourism minister for the Alicante province, Eduardo Dolón, has highlighted the commitment towards encouraging more wedding tourism. “…which is already in full swing and attracts a large number of people to our municipalities who sleep in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and spend money in out local stores.”

Currently, Alicante-Elche airport connects with Moscow and St. Petersburg, and the arrival of Russian tourists has skyrocketed in recent years.  There are 12 weekly flights operated by S7, Vueling and Aeroflot, a figure that increases to 22 during the peak season.
