ELCHE’S Triathlon event was suspended due to bad weather.
It was stated that the event had been cancelled due to the remains of a storm out to sea that resulted in waves of more than two metres high caused by strong winds. This would have affected the 1.5 kilometre swimming section of the three discipline race that was planned to take place off the beach of Los Arenales del Sol and thus put the safety of the participants at risk.
Around 300 people were due to take part in the Elche Triathlon and in addition to the swimming segment, they would’ve completed a 40 kilometre cycle race followed by a 10 kilometre running race finishing at the Paseo de la Estación.
Elche’s department of sport that assumed the organisation of this year’s event will be seeking to rearrange a new date for the triathlon and will be seeking to return the enrollment fees to the participants of the cancelled event.
