Attempted arsonist hands himself in to Guardia Civil
NEAR MISS: Man had already dowsed ground floor with petrol

A MAN has been arrested in Dolores after attempting to burn down a house that contained three young children at the time.

According the sources, the man doused the ground floor of the building with petrol although fled before he had chance to set light to the house when he realised the alarm had been raised by other family members in the property at the time.  Three children were on the top floor when the incident took place on Monday afternoon in a house in the centre of Dolores.

Local police and members of the Guardia Civil were quickly on the scene where they were able to comfort the family before beginning a search for the alleged perpetrator.

Officers reported that the children were found to be “very nervous but otherwise in good physical condition” and they ensured that the property was fully ventilated to clear the house of the fumes caused by the amount of fuel sprayed around.

The man was searched for throughout the night but he eventually handed himself in of his own free will first thing on Tuesday morning at the local Guardia Civil barracks and immediately placed under arrest.
