Colombian rumbled over 'smash n' grab' robbery

POLICE arrested a 21-year-old Colombian man accused of committing a ‘smash n’ grab’ robbery at the ‘Montenegro’ jewellery store in Denia last week.

At around 5.00am last Wednesday, the accused smashed one of the stores’ windows with a manhole cover and stole a variety of watches through the hole in the glass.

The alarm sounded and neighbours were quick to notify the police and the owners of the store.

The owners of the store – situated on the corner of Calle Marques de Campo and Calle Carlos Senti – provided the police with CCTV recordings and the store remained closed until Wednesday afternoon when the window was repaired.

The thief was easily identified from the CCTV recording due to his extensive criminal record and police arrested him a few days later.

Some of the stolen watches were recovered and returned to the store.

The accused also been linked to an attempted carjacking that same night.
