A 2-day open event is being held at award-winning eco-home Villa Moraira this weekend.
Villa Moraira – constructed by architects and builders of Valencian DICAM GROUP –is the only Passivhaus certified home in the Valencian community.
Passivhaus is a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint.
The villa occupies a 393 square metre plot and was designed with sustainability at heart. Polyurethane has been replaced with natural insulators such as cork and wood fiber and a large tank collects rainwater and turns it into drinking water.
The group managed to reduce the project’s carbon footprint by employing local tradesmen: “If suppliers are closer, carbon emissions are lower. It is the economy of proximity.”
As well as the being certified by PassivHaus, Villa Moraira was the only Spanish project shortlisted at the 2016 Breeam Awards in London. 40 projects from around the world were shortlisted, each one representing an example of high sustainability performance coupled with commitment and vision to creating and maintaining healthy, productive places.
On its website, the villa is described as: “much more than a house, it is an integral project of bioconstruction, designed so that its inhabitants enjoy an exclusive, high quality and healthy home.
The open event is being held Friday and Saturday (10th – 11th Nov) at 03724, Moraira.
