It’s battery saving time

THE entire population of the municipality of Algorfa is being encouraged to take part in a major collection programme.

Following an initiative from the Valencian Government, the Miguel de Cervantes de Algorfa School are participating in the campaign to collect old batteries, both regular batteries and the lithium ones that power laptops and mobile phone devices.

Apart from placing collecting bins in the town hall and other municipal buildings, schools taking part in the scheme have an extra incentive.  The school that collects the highest amount of batteries from their students and their families in proportion to the number of children at the school will receive a prize of €2,500.

The campaign is being launched with a theatrical piece connected with Berto Zampapilas – the character associated with the scheme – and schools will be provided with teaching material with the background to the use and disposal of batteries as a way of involving students in waste collection and environmental awareness.
