JITC (Javea International Tennis Club) Men’s tennis team had a surprise win in an away match against Buena Vista, last year’s champions, last Saturday.

The format consists of different combinations of pairings from each team playing against each other.

Six sets are played with the first pair to eight games winning each set.
JITC’s pair of Rolf Busse and Andre Trublet got off to a flying start, winning their close fought match 8:5.

JITC’s second pairing had a very tough first set with the lead changing many times. However, Alan Gibbs proved to be a pivotal player with a series of drive volley winners.
Peter Jones served out the second set with a love game to win it 8:6. The players then changed partners and the next two sets went the way of JITC.

Buena Vista made a late comeback by winning the fifth and sixth sets but it was too late and JITC won the match four sets to two.

JITC’s Andre Trublet said afterwards, “the opposition made it hard for us but our team played consistently. We’re very pleased to get such a good start to the season,”
