A 44-YEAR-OLD Spanish man was arrested in Finestrat charged with the corruption of minors.

The investigation was handled by EMUME – an Alicante Guardia Civil team established to investigate cases involving young females – who had received a report concerning a 17-year-old girl working as a prostitute.

The report, which came from the girl’s mother, told of how the minor was soliciting from a rented room in an apartment near Benidorm.

The team learnt that the girl had approached the accused – the landlord of the apartment – and pretended to be of legal age to rent a room.

A short time later, when the landlord found out what she was doing in the room and her age, rather than notify the authorities he decided to take advantage of the situation, blackmailing her into paying him a percentage of her earnings to keep quiet.

The girl worked for up to 12 hours a day and some days she was left with only €10, paying the rest to the landlord.

Officers entered the property last week and after checking there were no more minors being exploited, proceeded to arrest the accused.

He has since been released on bail and will appear in court in Benidorm shortly.
