Slow down in Jesus Pobre

THE CENTRE of Jesus Pobre has been declared a 30 km/h zone.

The proposal, passed in a plenary session last week, received the unanimous support of the Junta Vecinal (Neighbourhood Board).

It highlighted the fact Jesus Pobre is a small residential town built on a one-way road system with narrow streets and even narrower pavements.

The Neighbourhood Board discussed how, with cars parking on one side of the road, traffic going through the town does so within a metre of doorways.

It looked at the presence of children in the streets as they make their way to and from school, the presence and sports and leisure activities, cyclist and runners as well as the town’s popular weekend markets that increase the presence of pedestrians in the streets.

The permanent changes come after an experiment was conducted in October –speed bumps were placed throughout the town together with new road signs warning of the speed limit and safety is said to have improved.

The changes affect the following streets/ squares from January 2018: Pare Pere, Major, Plaça del Poble, Escoles, Diagonal, Pinaret, Eres, Ametlers, Lluna, BisbeHervas, Portelles, Convent, Placa de l´Esglesia and Cases Noves.
