No war, war…just exercise

NORWAY’S President Sauli Niinistö distanced himself from comments made by his Minister of Defence that his country is about to organise their largest military exercise since the conclusion of the Cold War.  He stated that the ‘possible exercise’ was nothing other than normal manoeuvres.

AN OPINION Poll in Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat showed that 59 per cent of Finns would oppose joining NATO.  The figures were released as US Defence Secretary James Mattis arrived in Helsinki for meetings aimed at bringing NATO and the EU closer in defence cooperation.

‘McUnique’ burger on sale

McDONALD’S is rolling out its new ‘McVegan’ burger in Finland, but it’s only available in one location…Tampere.  Local vegans have shown their delight that they’ve been given a vegan-friendly option, and proud that it’s the only place in the world to offer it.

Family grassers

ALMOST 75 per cent of those that responded to a traffic survey in the country said they wouldn’t hesitate in reporting a drunk driving relative to police.  Of the 1,000 people polled, 9 out of 10 said they would also report a stranger if they saw them drunk behind a wheel.

FATHER’S DAY in Finland this Sunday – November 12 – will instead be celebrated as a ‘relative’s day’ at the Yliskylä and Kulosaari day care centres in Helsinki.  Centre organisers say the move is intended to spare fatherless children from feeling of exclusion.
