A listening ear for Christmas

Samaritans

LAST weekend Costa Blanca Samaritans were kindly invited by Iceland, Torrevieja to come and do some bag packing for its customers.

It’s a busy time and Samaritans appreciated the opportunity to raise some funds and most importantly, also raise awareness of what they do and how easy it is to speak with them – 24/7, on anything that’s a worry.

In two days, approximately €540 was raised and Iceland’s customers certainly appreciated the help.

Samaritans in Spain offers a completely confidential and non-judgmental emotional support service around the clock, every day of the year.

This listening service is for any English speaker, old or young, male or female. More than 45% of men who responded to an online survey last year by Samaritans UK said they felt more worried at Christmas than any other time of the year.

While many people will be spending the holidays with friends and family, more than a third of male respondents admitted to feeling lonely at Christmas. However, men are also much less likely than women to have a positive view of counselling or therapy, and when they do use these services, they have sometimes reached the point of crisis.

The Samaritans charity always encourages anyone to seek help by calling them to offload if things are getting to them – especially over the festive period when there is huge pressure on us all to celebrate. Unfortunately, some may simply feel too anxious, fearful or depressed.

This time of year can be challenging for those recently bereaved, or in financial difficulty, dealing with relationship issues, or any other situation causing them distress. Christmas is a particularly tough period too for people living alone, which is why volunteers will be available round the clock, for anyone who is struggling to cope, including on Christmas day.

These inspirational people keep a vital service running every single day of the year when many others are closed.  For more information about the work of Samaritans In Spain please go to  www.samaritansinspain.com and  follow them on Facebook and Twitter.  Email pat@samaritansinspain.comor call FREE on 900 525 100.
