Cannabis clubs continue to be police targets

THE continuing crackdown by National Police in the Murcia region has resulted in a raid on another cannabis smoking club.

This time, the venue was in the neighbourhood of San Andrés – in Calle Huertas – and the specialised Unit of Drugs and Organised Crime (UDYCO) succeeded in detaining a dozen people.   A large number of officers were involved in the operation that followed a number of complaints made in recent months by local residents.

The raid, assisted by a number of specially trained dogs able to search out narcotic substances found quantities of marijuana and cash that were subsequently confiscated.  The arrested men, all from North Africa, were inside the premises when the operation took place.

Over the past few years, the National Police have acted very forcefully against these types of cannabis clubs found in Murcia and Cartagena.  Only last year, a similar raid took place in Calle Actor Crespo in the city of Murcia which resulted in the arrest of 10 people.
