IN AN initiative to save water due to the drought conditions that have persisted throughout many areas of the Vega Baja, Orihuela City Council will be reducing the street cleaning services.
The service is usually provided during the night with two trucks…one for the city inland and one for the coastal area.
Councillor Dámaso Aparicio explained that the drastic measures aim, “to save water consumption in the face of the difficult situation we find ourselves in. As long as we face this water shortage, the street cleaning services will be reduced unless there are exceptional situations under the control of the council technicians.”
On a daily basis, the municipal cleaning trucks use around 28,000 litres of water and future street washing will be carried out by using high pressure cleaning machines that have the same effects but using less water in the process.
