A BAKERY in Alicante has been selected as one of the best in Spain.
The Better Pan Bakery, run by Ramón Maciá and located in the Plaza Alcalde Agatángelo Soler on the Gran Vía, is the only Alicante bakery included in the Ruta Española del Buen Pan 2017 (Spanish route of good bread), an initiative organisations looking at the quality of bread.
An overall total of 83 bakeries from across Spain have been designated as being the best in the country, and among them are six in the Valencian Community of which three are in the city of Valencia, one in Castellón and the Better Pan Bakery in Alicante.
Six months ago, those behind the list decided to start touring around Spain to find the locations of the best bakeries in the country. They visited them one by one accompanied by some the top professionals in the sector and carried out a series of ‘anonymous’ tastings. More than 400 bakeries were visited and the final list of 83 was whittled down from an original line up of the best 150.
The winners will be announced soon and the top 80 on the list had to be expanded to include those bakeries that emerged from the tests with the same score.
