AS their records continue to tumble, Alicante-Elche Airport received its 13 millionth passenger on Tuesday.
The overall number of travellers using the airport throughout 2016 was 12.3 million, and so they are already 700,000 ahead of last year already with the busy pre-Christmas and Christmas period to come.
Passenger number 13 million was on a Vueling flight and was met by the director of the Alicante-Elche Airport Tomás Melgar and director of Network Strategy & Planning of Vueling Gabriel Schmilovich, and a commemorative gift was presented to the traveller.
Alicante-Elche Airport continues to break all previous passenger records as both year-on-year and total numbers show notable increases each time they’re announced. The 12.3 million for 2016 represented a 16.7 per cent rise in passengers and 17.6 per cent in flights and was fifth on the list in Spain behind Madrid, Barcelona, Palma and Malaga and ahead of Gran Canaria.
