A 78-YEAR-old man was arrested after he tried to pressure a young woman on a train into giving up her seat by showing her a gun.  After boarding the underground train on the U6 line in the north of the city, the man aggressively demanded that the woman give up her seat.

Immigrant numbers falling

GERMAN’S Interior Minister Thomas de Maizi has announced that the number of new asylum seekers in the country has fallen for a second year in a row following the mass influx that peaked in 2015, and is predicting a total of fewer than 200,000 migrants.

Lauda getting lapped

FORMER Austrian Formula One racing driver Niki Lauda has accused German airline Lufthansa of trying to “destroy” the Niki airline that he founded.  Niki – formerly a part of bankrupt Air Berlin and operated most recently by Lufthansa – was grounded after insolvency proceedings opened.

SAUSAGE makers in Germany have been in court to appeal against a record fine for alleged price fixing scandal.   The Federal Cartel Office placed a €338m fine on a string of sausage producers in 2014, that included such big brand names as Herta and Böklunder.

Fewer deliveries

DEUTSCHE POST is considering following the example of Denmark where the postman only comes twice a week.  In Germany, the post is required to arrive every day of the working week. But in the last few months Deutsche Post has examined whether this practice is still necessary.
