A MAN was seriously injured after being hit by a truck on the A-7 motorway in Crevillente.
The impact caused the victim to fall down a four-metre embankment after he has hit when he was standing in the hard shoulder of the motorway after his own vehicle had broken down.
The seriously injured man suffered an open fracture to both ankles and lost a great deal of blood before being attended to by emergency services from Crevillente and Elche. Fortunately, one of the firefighters who were among the first to arrive has also studied medicine and so, with the help of an off-duty nurse who happened to be passing the scene of the accident in her own car, were able to administer first aid until paramedics arrived. The man was transferred to the Vinalopó Hospital in a very serious condition due to his severe loss of blood.
Even though the collision forced one of the lanes on the motorway to be closed, there were no large traffic hold-ups. The truck driver, who managed to avoid his vehicle overturning as a result of the accident and the other occupant of the van didn’t suffer any serious injuries.
