Alicante-Elche Airport is ‘most efficient’ in Spain

FLYING HIGHER: Alicante-Elche Airport only had 305 significant delays during 2017

THE END of 2017 has come to an end with some good news for Alicante-Elche Airport.

They can now proudly boost that they are the holders of the most efficient airport in the country.

This news comes shortly after predictions that will be beat their own passenger record and finish the year around 14 million.

Over the past 12 months, passengers using the airport only suffered 305 flight delays (classed as being three hours minimum) out of a total of 90,000 handled.

Even so, it cost close to €11 million in compensation payouts to the 34,000 passengers affected.

All the figures have been supplied by the AirHelp organisation who are a world leader in claims affecting airline passengers.

Communications director of AirHelp, Paloma Salmerón, said: “In the case of a delayed or cancelled flight, passengers may be entitled to receive up to €600 in compensation. However, despite this, less than 2% of travellers request this compensation, which means that many of them do not know that they are entitled to these payouts.”
