OFFICERS from the National Police have seized 453 marijuana plants in a villa in the Bello Horizonte urbanisation of San Pedro Alcantara.

The distinctive smell of the drug and the permanent buzzing sound of the equipment betrayed the existence of the plantation.

In the rented building they found 58 halogen lamps, 28 transformers, a precision scale, a vacuum sealer, seven mobile phones, containers with small amounts of cannabis, a motor vehicle and various documents.

The villa had a basement growing area where the marijuana was cultivated, and the collection of tools was discovered within.

A 42 year old Spanish man has been identified as the owner of the plantation and the tenant of the house but he is currently imprisoned in France having been convicted of a similar crime.
