A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested at Alicante- Elche Airport in connection with an armed robbery at a Benidorm amusement arcade.

The young detainee is suspected of stealing €11,500 at gunpoint using a pistol after entering the gambling and games venue in the popular tourist zone.

The incident took place last December 11 when a man wearing a hoodie and covering his face with a balaclava entered the building and approached one of the members of staff pointing a gun at them.

He then demanded that they go to the cash register and the safe to withdraw the cash. From entering the building and running away with the money, the entire robbery lasted less than 60 seconds, such was the planning behind the attack.

Specialist teams investigating violent crime in Benidorm took charge of the case and began to follow the tracks left by the armed robber.

A thorough review of the CCTV cameras unveiled a man who matched the description of the assailant and managed to identify him accordingly.

Police eventually set up an operation to apprehend the suspect and was subsequently arrested at Alicante-Elche Airport as he was about to board a flight to Galicia
