THE year 2018 will start positively for the residents of Fuengirola, as the council has announced five renovation projects and an investment of over €1.5 million.
The first initiative to be undertaken is a redevelopment of the streets Jacinto Benavente, Moreno Saithe, Heroes Heroes, a section of Matagorda and the main square.
The work on these areas began on January 8, with further improvements in the pipeline. “Despite Christmas, we have not stopped working in order to ensure that the various works go ahead on schedule in 2018,” says Mayor Ana Mula.
The most important route in Fuengirola is Jacinto Benavente, as it serves as a link to the city centre, with the promenade and the fishing port.
However, its design has become outdated and needs restructuring in line with the council’s plans. As a result, the work will begin with demolitions and perimeter fencing.
Other renovations involve both surface and underground infra-structure, including sanitation, drinking water, electricity, tele-phone lines and public lighting.
The main bus stop is to be converted into a station, with greater accessibility and the replacement of the garden area with trees. A new stop will also be created in this area, in line with bus timetables, allowing easier public access.
