ALICANTE had a royal visitor this morning (Thursday) when Queen Sofia paid a visit to the main food bank in the city.

It’s been an interest of Her Majesty for some time, and Doña Sofia has previously met with the heads of the charity to learn more about their work and some of their future plans. The central food bank in Alicante currently distributes a range of staple foods among 33,000 people throughout the province.

During the visit, the Queen met and thanked many of the workers at the food bank, especially since the vast majority of them are volunteers.

The Reina Sofia Foundation has been working with food banks since 2012, supporting its work by financing a number of specific projects and sourcing donations of food from a range of private companies.
