THE Court of Instruction of Torremolinos has opened proceedings for alleged irregularities detected in the awarding of Torremolinos TV’s management contract.
In 2015 the Council put out a tender to determine its management going forward.
However, several potential candidates denounced the process, claiming that it violated the conditions of the tender.
Several months later the Provincial Prosecutor of Malaga investigated the evidence and decided that it could “constitute a crime against the Public Administration,” and duly referred it to the courts.
The management of Torremolinos Television was awarded to a company from Malaga, despite the fact that one the requirements was to assign it to a professional individual.
This individual was to be a professional in the media or having accredited knowledge of management and journalism.
The selection process was also apparently extended for 11 days past the deadline, during which time the winning proposal was made.
In addition, the winning company appointed a director who did not appear in its proposal, and was only working as a subcontractor.
Councillor Maria Carmen Garcia Bernal, who chairs the board of the winning group commented that the company had acted with discretion and is collaborating with the investigation.
