A 30-METRE YACHT has caught fire in Alicante, leaving 10 people needing treatment for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the blaze in San Gabriel Port is not yet known but nine of the injured needed to be treated in hospitals throughout the region following the incident earlier today (Tuesday).

A cat was also rescued from the yacht.

Emergency services are still at the scene, but after battling the blaze for several hours, it has been brought under control.

A spokesperson for the Alicante Council Security department said “the works to tackle the fire have been extended”, but it should be put out by tomorrow according to reports.

All of the injured have since been discharged from their hospitals.
