OFFICERS from the Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil have pulled a body from the sea off the Orihuela Costa.
The corpse was originally spotted by a passer-by around 2pm in the Cala la Mosca and the emergency services were alerted. The body was finally taken from the water at around 6pm.
As soon as the alarm was received, members of the fire service were sent to the scene. However, on their arrival they realised that the location of the body was trapped between the rocks at the bottom of a cliff with very steep terrain. The specialist GEAS service from the Guardia Civil was then called to assist with what had now turned into a recovery rather than a possible rescue.
The body, understood to be that of a middle-aged man and found dressed only in his trousers, was taken to the marina at Cabo Roig before onward transporting for forensic examination.
