MURCIA’S regional president, Fernando Lopez Miras, has announced a €12 million investment to treat rare diseases across the community.

As part of the ‘Comprehensive Plan for Rare Diseases’ that was presented at the Palacio de San Esteban, it is expected that more than 100,000 people in the Murcia Region will benefit from this injection of funds.

Speaking to Spanish media, Lopez Miras said that “We are a government that works for people, and to this end we have put all the resources necessary for the quick detection of rare diseases and their effective treatment.”

Specifically, the investment will cover a total of 42 different objectives planned to take place between now and 2020.  These include prevention, early detection and diagnosis via a new scheme of screening programmes, health care, education, training, and research.
