HEALTH centres across the Marina Baixa will be closed in the afternoons in the height of the summer months.
The Ministry of Health has taken the decision not to replace members of staff that take their holidays during the busy tourist season in centres based in Benidorm, Villajoyosa, Altea, Alfas del Pi and La Nucia. These are added to those located in Callosa and La Cala that were similarly closed last summer, although in their cases remained closed afterwards for the evening surgeries.
The measures will come into force from on Tuesday July 1 and continue until Sunday September 30.
As a rule, these clinics remain open until 9pm but for the summer months they will close at 3pm. However, there will still be a skeleton staff working consisting of a doctor, a paediatrician and a nurse to help with any emergencies.
The people most affected will be local residents (and mainly other Spanish visitors) that will only be able to make an appointment with their GP between 8am and 3pm, regardless of whether their work routine prevents them from going to the doctor or not during those hours.
