MAYOR of Marbella Ángeles Muñoz performed a formal ceremony laying the first brick in the building of an all-inclusive family resort.
Club Med, which first came to the Balearics in 1950 has teamed up with property owner Magna Hotels & Resort in order to bring the Club Med brand up to date and back with this new development in Marbella.
Magna secured the famous Don Miguel hotel in 2012 and working with Club Med anticipates spending more than €70 million to refurbish and renovate the existing building which will offer 486 rooms when the new resort opens in 2019.
To complement the ceremony, a pair of synchronised swimmers showed off their skill in one of the remaining pools to the delight of those attending before the Mayor embedded the ceremonial first brick.
Representatives of Club Med and Magna Hotels & Resort thanked Marbella for the support and welcome they have received and explained that the new resort would be aimed firmly at families and will offer a wide variety of sports, wellness and cultural activities with dedicated childcare available during the 11 months the resort would be open each year.
The project will bring additional jobs into the city, firstly as the reconstruction takes place and then an expected 300 staff will be needed to supply direct services to guests with additional support employment also likely.
