DIGGERS and other machines were deployed by the Junta de Andalucia to Marbella yesterday, to start the beach regeneration work after the storms earlier in the year.
The work will be carried out throughout the next month, with the expectation of having the coastline ready for the beginning of June.
Marbella’s Councillor for Beaches, Manuel Cardeña, has overseen the project which will start in Pinillo and spread to the rest of the beaches in the area.
The first stage of the works will involve the restoration of jetties and footbridges, as well as strengthening areas where steps and other man-made structures have been introduced.
The second phase will see the addition of large quantities of sand to the beaches.
It is calculated that 75,000 cubic metres of sand will be added to Marbella’s coastline in time for high season.
A budget of €2.5 million has been allocated for beach regeneration along the Malaga province coast, of which Marbella will receive €710,000.
