RETAIL giant Intu has started preparation work on the site where it will build its commercial and leisure park in Torremolinos.
Although the project requires final approval from the Junta de Andalucia’s Ministry of Public Works, especially on new access routes, some removal of trees has begun.
Due to their poor condition from disease, 237 trees are in line to be destroyed, while 716 others (that are healthy) will be transferred to another part of the site.
One hundred olive trees will be given to the council to be planted in public parks around Torremolinos.
Intu has assured that all the trees being destroyed are in a poor state, and that their workers have received environmental training to cause minimal damage to the surrounding vegetation.
