IMPROVEMENT works to the Calle La Union, which runs through both Mijas and Fuengirola, are to get underway shortly.
Although the two towns are governed by different political parties, they have come together to form an agreement on improvements to the street.
During local holidays some businesses on the street will be open and others closed depending on their position on the road, with different regulations and even a different cleaning service.
There has even been uncertainty when it comes to crime, with an incident where the Guardia Civil investigated a case which happened at the halfway point of the street, because the bullet casings were in Mijas.
Mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado said:
“The good understanding between the two administrations has led to this joint action amounting to almost €1 million.”
For her part, Mayor of Fuengirola Ana Mula commented:
“We have set in motion a complete remodelling, which not only renews the road surface, but will have special adaptations.”
She added that specific space will be created for those with reduced mobility.
