OFFICERS of the National Police and the Guardia Civil have dismantled a criminal organisation with a record of violent robberies in Malaga province.
Four members of the group have been arrested and charged with 15 crimes relating to armed robbery.
An investigation began in February when several shops in Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmadena Marbella and Estepona were robbed at gunpoint.
Further inquiries using surveillance led police to discover that the organisation was being run from Mijas, and that in addition to the shop thefts, the gang were stealing motorcycles and either selling them or using them in their criminal activities.
The suspects would reportedly contact motorcycle dealers on second-hand websites, and having set up an apparent purchase, would go to the seller’s house and steal the motorcycle, using violence if necessary.
To avoid detection the defendants would wear hoods, helmets or caps, and one even dressed as an officer of the National Police.
In addition to the charge of 15 counts of armed robbery, the four detainees are also accused of belonging to a criminal organisation, motorcycle theft, and deception.
During house raids as part of operation “Triada-Chan”, police seized two firearms, live ammunition, a vehicle, helmets, mobile phones and various items of clothing.
